Best Costa del Sol Golf Courses – Top 10 Golf Courses On the Costa del Sol

If you’re searching for a run down of the best golf courses on the Costa del Sol then read on. With over 50 seriously good golf courses to choose you probably won’t be able to play a round at them all. So to help in your choice, here are some of the best.

Valderrama

This course situated close to Sotogrande is probably one of the best courses in Europe. It comes as no surprise then that it has previously hosted the Ryder Cup and it is a regular host of the Volvo Masters. The course here is immaculate and was designed by Trent Jones with undulating terrain and old cork and oak trees. Visitors are welcome but you must book in advance. There is a minimum handicap of 24 which has to be proved.

Atalaya golf and country club

The is an 18 hole par 72 course that is situated at Benahavis 5 minutes inland from Estepona. The course is classic with flat parkland, wide fairways and elevated greens which are well protected by bunkers. Atalaya Golf is a total of 5325 metres

Las Brissas

Las Brissas is easily one of the best Costa del Sol golf courses as the club played host to the world cup and the Spanish Open. Situated in Nueva Andalucia close to Marbella it offers a fairly challenging course with water on 12 of the 18 holes. It is a par 72 and is 6198 metres in length.

Los Naranjos

Still in Nueva Andalucia, Los Naranjos is well maintained with long fairways and even longer greens which meander their way between striking orange trees. At 6484 metres and a par 72 it offers a challenge to both amateur and professional player

La Cala Golf and Country Club

Situated just down from Mijas La Cala, the golf course is positioned on hilly terrain which makes for a challenging but fair round. Add to this the many water hazards and the result is that accuracy right off the tee is essential. This is a par 73 course with a length of 6160 metres.

La Canada

Adjacent to its sister course of Valderrama, La Canada in Estepona is also open to gusty winds. It has great views looking out across the Rio Guadiaro across to the Med. La Canada is the only public golf course on the Costa and this 18 hole golf course is a par 70 at 5746 metres.

Los Arqueros

Inland slightly from Marbella lies the course at Los Arqueros. This par 72 course was designed by the one and only Seve Ballasteros and is 5874 metres in length. The course winds its way through two valleys and demands bold shots, so definitely not for the timid.

Miraflores Golf Club

If there was a prize for not only being one of the best Costa del sol golf courses but also for having the most stunning scenery, then this club would win hands down. Situated up in the hills above Mijas Costa anyone playing here is treated to breath taking views. However don’t be misled by the panoramic views. Its elevated greens and constant water hazards make it a tricky course to play. Enjoyable, but challenging nonetheless. It is 5270 metres in length and is a par 71.

Monte Mayor Golf Club

The Monte Mayor situated close to the town Of Benahavis up in the hills above Marbella is 5652 metres of shear extravagance. This course somehow manages to wind its way through gorges, large rock formations and wild vegetation. Challenging it is and a buggy is essential but wow, what an experience.

La Duquesa Golf and Country Club

This course lies around 10 kms south west of Estepona and is 6054 metres in length. As La Duquesa winds its way around the hill at El Hacho it demands concentration and a great tee shot. From all fairways you can see stunning views of the coast, the Mediterranean Sea beyond, and on a clear day, Africa. For those that don’t want to play the par 72 course, the golf club also has facilities such as squash, tennis, bowls, gym and a sauna. It also has its own yachting harbour.
