Getting around Andalucia

December 4, 2013 By Andalucia Travel Guide

When travelling to an unknown destination it always helps to know what kind of transport infrastructure the area has. Luckily for those travelling around Andalucia there is an excellent infrastructure in place.

Over the past few years a huge amount of work has done on a large amount of the motorways making much of Andalucia easily accessible to any one wanting to make their own way around the region. There are ‘toll’ roads that make journeys shorter and although you don’t get all the hustle and bustle of the coastal towns you do get long open roads and lush countryside.

Travelling by car is therefore very enjoyable and although rush hours can be frustrating you should not shy away from taking the odd detour to some hidden village. Of course, using a car also allows you to save visit tourist sites in your own time and gives you the freedom to change direction if you feel you’ve missed out on something.

The bus service is a very popular form of transport in Andalucia and is usually very reliable. There are stations in all the major cities and most towns which have buses that travel around the region and to other parts of the country.

Using the bus service is certainly advisable as it is usually clean and on time. However, many journeys can be very long as they tend to visit many small locations rather than the main destinations.

Trains are also very reliable and are very popular in Andalucia. Many travellers use the service to get around fast, especially when trying to visit all the major cities as quickly as possible.

The best part of using the trains is the views you get, especially up in the mountains on the journey to Cordoba. Passing through gorges and mountains ranges provides the traveller with picturesque views and jaw dropping scenery.

So, no matter where you want to go in Andalucia you have plenty of choices as to what mode of transport to choose. Don’t shy away from renting a car and making your own way round but then again if it’s speed you’re after use the trains. Buses are ideal for shorter journeys and can get you to the most remote of destinations.
